Term 1: Walking with God
Theme for the Term:
Learning that God made me, loves me, and wants to walk with me every day.
The first term lays the foundation for children to see themselves as loved, chosen, and guided by God. Each week introduces a truth from Psalm 119 through story, discussion, and hands-on activity suitable for young learners.
Week 1 – Bondage and Sin: God Sets Us Free
Justification:
Children begin to understand right and wrong through boundaries. This lesson helps them see that God wants to keep them safe from what hurts their hearts.
Guidance:
Use a story about the Israelites leaving Egypt. Explain that sin is like being stuck, but Jesus helps us to be free.
💡 Activity: Wrap a learner gently in a ribbon (bondage) and “set them free” when they say, “Jesus helps me!”
Week 2 – Who Am I? God Knows My Name
Justification:
Identity and belonging are key at this stage; learners need to feel known and special to God.
Guidance:
Read Jeremiah 1:5. Talk about names and how God calls each person by name.
💡 Activity: Learners decorate their names on paper hearts and write “I belong to God.”
Week 3 – Alef: Learning to Walk with God
Justification:
Learners start to understand obedience through routines. This week teaches that following God brings peace and joy.
Guidance:
Compare God’s way to walking on a straight line. Staying on His path keeps us safe.
💡 Activity: Masking-tape a “path” on the floor; learners walk it while saying, “God leads me.”
Week 4 – Bet: God’s Word Is Our Home
Justification:
Home is the child’s first safe space; they connect love and security with belonging.
Guidance:
Talk about how the Bible helps us feel at home with God.
💡 Activity: Build a paper “house” with verses on each wall: love, kindness, forgiveness, truth.
Week 5 – Gimel: God Carries Us When We’re Tired
Justification:
Children need reassurance of God’s care when life feels hard.
Guidance:
Explain that like a camel carries a heavy load, God carries us when we feel weak.
💡 Activity: Learners draw themselves on God’s shoulders or make a “God carries me” camel craft.
Week 6 – Dalet: God Opens Doors for New Beginnings
Justification:
Encourages hope and problem-solving — even when mistakes happen, God gives another chance.
Guidance:
Tell a story of a door that opens when we say sorry.
💡 Activity: Make paper doors; behind each, write or draw something new God gives (peace, joy, friends).
Week 7 – Hey: God Gives Us His Breath of Life
Justification:
Learners begin noticing creation and the gift of life. This week links breath with gratitude.
Guidance:
Let them feel their breathing; say, “Every breath is from God.”
💡 Activity: Blow bubbles while thanking God for life; draw pictures of things that make them feel alive and thankful.
Week 8 – Vav: God Holds Everything Together
Justification:
Teaches connection — how we are joined to God and others through love and truth.
Guidance:
Show that love is like a “nail” that keeps everything fastened.
💡 Activity: Create a paper chain of hearts labelled God, family, friends, me to show connection.
Week 9 – My Life in God’s Word
Justification:
Reflection helps young children notice God in everyday moments.
Guidance:
Review all the letters and stories. Ask: “What did we learn about God?”
💡 Activity: Assemble a small picture booklet, one page per week’s truth.
Week 10–10.5 – Celebration Week
Justification:
Concludes the term by reinforcing joy in learning about God.
Guidance:
Hold a short “God’s Word Parade” — sing, share crafts, and thank God together.
💡 Activity: Each child presents one truth (e.g., “God knows my name!”) as part of a class celebration.
